Ishwarnaman- towards a revival of the ancient glory of India
About Us

How many times has the thought crossed your mind that you would like to do something for our people. These worthy thoughts are always there at the back of one's mind and sometimes, if one is lucky, it will germinate and the result would be constructive -- Just like ISHWARNAMAN. Ours is a humble attempt to disseminate the huge repertoire of hindu texts, before they vanish from the face of the earth. Although they have survived thousands of years, there is no guarantee that they will continue to be. The past sixty years have seen rapid erosion of the importance of this religion in India.

The objectives of Ishwarnaman are simple yet far-reaching. It is not our intention to label any custom or tradition as blindfaith, superstition, ritualistic, mythical, and so on. It is our firm belief that the introduction of a tradition or custom was based on solid reasons; the reasons may however have been lost sight of. So, who are we, doyens of a 500 year old foreign language, to sit in judgment and declare these thousands years old traditions as baseless with one wave of our unworthy hand.

Bhartiya Sanskriti and the Sanskrit language are closely interwoven. Through this website we will be putting forth various subhashitams, shlokas, mantras and stutis. In addition, sanskrit translation of words and phrases used in everyday conversation are provided to remove the element of fear or hesitation from our minds.

We shall be making this an interactive and participative website. The 'Test your Knowledge' section is a step in this direction. We propose to put out a newsletter for our visitors. This would be available as e-mail or as hard copies to be sent by post.

These days with the replacement of the joint family system by the nuclear family where every member is under pressure to 'achieve' something, the need of grandmothers narrating stories from the epics and other puraanas is strongly felt.

Since grannies these days are busybodies, we have taken upon ourselves to do their job!
