Subhashitam, literally means 'good speech'. These are generally two-liners that provide good traditional wisdom in day-to-day conversation. The metre of the subhashitam is very simple and easy to remember.
Moreover, the language is gentle -- not rude or crass. So, when you need to advise a person and are constrained by political correctness -- just quote a subhashitam.
